Maple End-Grain Butcher Block – 15.5 x 9.75 x 1.75″.

This is a thick, heavy-duty maple butcher block, built end grain up so the growth rings show across the top. At 1.75″ thick it stays put on the counter and is made for real prep work: breaking down a chicken, chopping vegetables, or carving a roast.

Why is an end grain cutting board better?

Because of the grain orientation in an end-grain board, your knife parts the wood fibers instead of slicing through them. You’ll see less wear on your knives and on the board. Maple is the classic butcher block wood: hard, tight-grained and durable.

Rubber feet.

I put small rubber feet on all my end-grain boards. They keep the board from sliding, and they let air reach both sides so the moisture stays even. That helps prevent cracking and warping.

The Food-Safe Finish.

I finished this board with several coats of food-grade mineral oil to fully saturate it, which reduces how much water it can absorb. Then I buff it with a mix of carnauba and beeswax. This adds a subtle sheen and causes water to bead on the surface.

Cleaning and care.

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry it standing on its edge. Never put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. Re-oil it with food-grade mineral oil whenever it starts to look dry.
