Made by Eliot, one board at a time

I’m Eliot, a woodworker in Massachusetts. I mill, glue, sand and finish every piece myself, often from wood with a story, like the decades-old apple tree in my front yard or salvaged cherry that would have been firewood. Every board is sanded to 180 grit, saturated with food-grade mineral oil and sealed with a carnauba and beeswax blend.

Frequently asked questions

Are your cutting boards food safe?

Yes. Every board is saturated with food-grade mineral oil and sealed with a blend of carnauba wax and beeswax, both food safe.

How do I care for a wooden cutting board?

Hand wash with warm, soapy water and dry it right away. Don’t put it in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. Rub on mineral oil or board wax whenever it starts to look dry.

What is the difference between end-grain and edge-grain cutting boards?

On an end-grain board your knife slips between the wood fibers instead of slicing through them, so it’s gentler on your knives and hides cut marks. Edge-grain boards are lighter and thinner, which makes them easy to move around the kitchen.

Can I order a custom board?

Yes. Browse my past work, click Commission something like this under any piece, and tell me what you’d like changed: size, wood, resin color, a handle, anything.

Where are your boards made?

Every piece is made by hand in Massachusetts and shipped from Massachusetts.
